What to expect

Cooling gel applied. The laser delivers pulses targeting pigment or blood vessels. May feel a rubber-band snap. Some providers use numbing for sensitive areas.

Results timeline

Pigment may darken then flake over 1–2 weeks. Vascular lesions fade in days to weeks. Full series needed for melasma.

Good candidates

Those with melasma, stubborn dark spots, or vascular concerns (spider veins, redness). Safer for darker skin tones than many other lasers.

Considerations

Avoid sun and certain skincare (retinoids, AHAs) before/after. Not for pregnant or breastfeeding. Melasma can recur with sun exposure.

Possible side effects

Mild redness and swelling. Temporary darkening of treated spots. Rare: blistering, scarring, or rebound pigmentation.

Maintenance

Melasma often needs ongoing treatment (every few months) plus strict sun protection. Vascular treatments can be long-lasting.

Frequently asked

Nd:YAG is one of the safer options for Fitzpatrick IV–VI. Still, choose an experienced provider.

Treated pigment rises to the surface before flaking off. This is normal and temporary.
